APA Life Hosts Pension Master Class to Strengthen Retirement Planning in Kenya

1 Mins read

APA Life Assurance has convened Kenya’s leading retirement, pensions and investment experts for a Pension Master Class aimed at equipping individuals, employers and financial decision-makers with practical knowledge to prepare for a longer, healthier and financially secure retirement.

Held under the theme “Shape What’s Next,” the forum addressed the evolving retirement landscape as Kenyans continue to enjoy longer life expectancies, making retirement planning increasingly complex.

The event explored key issues affecting retirement preparedness, including rising healthcare costs, changing economic conditions, and evolving pension regulations, with experts emphasizing that traditional retirement savings strategies are no longer sufficient.

Speaking during the event, APA Life Assurance Chief Executive Officer Eric Wainaina said retirement planning should go beyond accumulating pension savings.

“Retirement is no longer just about reaching a certain age or building a pension fund. It is about creating lifelong financial resilience that allows people to live with dignity, independence, and confidence. As life expectancy increases, retirement planning must address investment growth, healthcare, financial literacy, and ongoing engagement,” he said.

He added that the Master Class was designed to provide Kenyans with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to confidently prepare for their financial future.

The programme featured keynote presentations and panel discussions on Kenya’s 2026 economic outlook and its implications for retirement planning, creating lasting social impact through financial security, the future of retirement policy and regulation, and the growing importance of post-retirement medical cover.

APA Life said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to improving financial literacy and empowering more Kenyans to make informed long-term financial decisions. The company also noted that bringing together policymakers, industry experts, and retirement specialists would help foster meaningful dialogue on the future of retirement while identifying practical solutions for individuals and organizations.

The Pension Master Class attracted pension trustees, employers, human resource professionals, financial advisers, retirement scheme members, regulators, and individuals seeking to strengthen their retirement planning as Kenya adapts to changing demographic and economic realities.
