Airtel Money, Google partner to simplify Play Store payments

Airtel Money customers in Kenya, can now conveniently and securely pay for applications on the Google Play Store directly from their mobile wallets, thanks to a newly announced partnership between Airtel Money and Google.

This collaboration allows Airtel Money users,  to make direct payments for apps and digital content on Google Play, without needing a credit or debit card. The integration ensures a streamlined, affordable, and secure payment experience, reinforcing Airtel Money’s position as an innovative leader in the mobile money sector.

Notably, Airtel Money is currently the only mobile wallet integrated with Google Play Store in Kenya. Customers who use Airtel Money for transactions on Google Play, will enjoy zero transaction fees, making it a cost-effective payment option for app purchases.

Speaking on the partnership, Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Managing Director of Airtel Money, expressed enthusiasm about the development:

On Google’s part, Kevin McDaid, EMEA Payment Partnerships at Google, emphasized the company’s commitment to localizing solutions for customers:

“We are pleased to introduce Airtel Mobile Money to users making purchases on the Google Play Store in Kenya. This integration underscores Google’s commitment to providing accessible, localized solutions.”

Airtel Money’s subscriber base has been growing steadily, driven by strategic partnerships and its focus on delivering enhanced value to users. With increasing integration across multiple platforms, Airtel Money continues to expand its influence in the digital payment space.

Customers can easily set up Airtel Money as a payment method on Google Play by selecting “Add Airtel Money” under payment options and following the prompts. Once set up, app purchases and subscriptions can be paid for seamlessly, with charges deducted directly from their Airtel Money wallet.

This partnership marks another step in Airtel Money’s expansion into global digital payments, offering customers greater convenience and affordability when purchasing their favourite online applications.
