Absa Bank Kenya Retains Top Employer Status for Fifth Year

1 Mins read

Absa Bank Kenya has been recognised as a Top Employer for the fifth consecutive year, reaffirming its position as one of the country’s leading organisations for people-centric workplace practices.

The recognition, awarded by the Top Employers Institute (TEI), follows an independent and rigorous assessment of the bank’s human resource policies and practices across key global standards.

In the 2026 certification, Absa Bank Kenya recorded notable improvement, contributing to an overall Absa Group score of 93.66 per cent, up from 90.15 per cent in 2025 and well above the global benchmark of 85.9 per cent. Besides Kenya, Absa Group operations in Botswana, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, and Mauritius were also certified, with all six markets scoring above 87 per cent. Kenya alone improved its score by 4.94 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The Top Employers Institute, which operates in over 125 countries and regions, evaluates organisations through its HR Best Practices Survey. The assessment covers six critical domains: People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and Wellbeing.

During the assessment, Absa achieved perfect scores of 100 per cent in Business Strategy, Leadership, and Performance, highlighting strong alignment between organisational strategy, leadership execution, and results. The bank also performed strongly in Ethics and Integrity, scoring 99.49 per cent, surpassing both global and industry benchmarks.

Absa’s Work Environment score rose to 98.41 per cent, positioning the bank more than 10 per cent above the global benchmark and nearly 8 per cent above the industry average. The largest year-on-year improvements were recorded in offboarding, diversity, equity and inclusion, rewards and recognition, sustainability, and employer branding.

Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamed said the recognition reflects the commitment and resilience of the bank’s workforce. He noted that the achievement underscores Absa’s focus on putting employees at the centre of its business strategy while enabling them to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Chief People Officer Mumbi Kahindo said being recognised for the fifth consecutive year demonstrates how Absa’s culture and people practices have evolved over time. She added that the bank has adopted a more data-led approach to understanding employee engagement, trust, and wellbeing, enabling targeted interventions across the employee lifecycle.

Absa says it remains committed to strengthening its employee value proposition by focusing on leadership quality, learning and development, meaningful work, and overall employee wellbeing, as it continues to align its people strategy with long-term business growth.
