TECNO has secured two Gold Awards at IFA 2026, with its futuristic Modular Phone and Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro) earning global recognition for innovation, design and performance.
The awards highlight TECNO’s growing focus on advanced consumer technology beyond its established smartphone portfolio, including the Camon, Spark, and POVA series that are widely available to consumers in Kenya.
The Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS won the Miniaturised Gaming PC Technology Innovation Gold Award, while the TECNO Modular Phone received the Ultra Slim Magnetic Modular Technology Innovation Gold Award.
The Global Product Technology Innovation Awards were established in 2014 by IDG, IFA, and DIHK to recognise products that introduce new ideas, technologies, and design approaches to the global consumer electronics industry.
Modular Phone Brings a New Approach to Smartphones
TECNO’s Modular Phone was recognised for its ultra-slim construction and magnetic modular technology.
At just 4.9mm thick, TECNO says the device is the world’s slimmest modular smartphone. It uses proprietary Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, combining a precision magnetic array with pogo pin connectors to allow different modules to be attached to the phone.
The ecosystem comprises 10 high-performance modules designed to provide additional functions depending on users’ needs.
The host device retains a 3,000mAh to 4,000mAh battery, while the attached modules draw power directly from the smartphone. TECNO says the design creates a “snap and go” experience while eliminating the need for traditional physical ports.
The phone also features a portless unibody design with an IP rating for dust and water resistance.
For Kenyan consumers, the technology could signal a future where smartphones become more customisable, allowing users to add capabilities without necessarily replacing the entire device.
TECNO says the Modular Phone is expected to enter mass production soon.
Lamborghini Partnership Targets Gaming and AI
The second award went to the Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro), a compact gaming PC that combines high-performance computing with Italian-inspired design.
Measuring approximately 6.36 litres, the mini PC features a vertical chassis and panoramic transparent window designed to showcase its internal components.
Under the hood, it is powered by an Intel Core i9-13900HK processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics, with support for DLSS 4. The system also incorporates water cooling to help maintain performance under demanding workloads.
The PC includes 15 ports, including OCuLink and USB4, alongside Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
TECNO positions the TAURUS as both a gaming machine and an AI workstation, potentially appealing to users seeking powerful computing performance in a compact form factor.
Concept Devices Offer a Glimpse of Future TECNO Products
TECNO also showcased the Next Gen Bezelless Concept Phone, featuring a claimed 0mm screen bezel, as well as the convertible MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro laptop.
The two products remain concept devices rather than mainstream retail products.
For Kenyan technology consumers, however, the developments offer an indication of the design and engineering directions TECNO is exploring as it expands beyond conventional smartphones.
The latest IFA recognition adds to TECNO’s growing collection of international accolades and underscores the company’s efforts to combine artificial intelligence, hardware innovation, and distinctive design across its product portfolio.
