Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to steer clear of active politics and instead embrace a statesman role by offering guidance to the current leadership.
Speaking during a Sunday church service at PCEA Ngaini in Mathira, Nyeri County, Murkomen said former leaders have a responsibility to support governance through counsel rather than political engagement.
At the same time, the CS outlined a series of security interventions aimed at tackling rising crime and social challenges in the region. He revealed that the Inspector General of Police will deploy a special unit to intensify the fight against drug and substance abuse, targeting both perpetrators and their networks.
Murkomen further announced the rollout of intelligence-led operations to address increasing cases of livestock and coffee theft, which have been reported in several parts of Nyeri County.
The CS was accompanied by a host of regional leaders, including Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge, Kieni MP Wainaina Njoroge, and Nyeri County Commissioner Josphat Biwott, alongside other local leaders.
The announcements come amid growing concern over insecurity and substance abuse in parts of Central Kenya, with authorities now signaling a tougher, coordinated response.
