Kenyan football legend Victor Wanyama delivered a powerful masterclass to standout players from the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Tournament, offering both technical and life skills guidance as preparations intensify for the launch of Season 5.
The session, held at the Ligi Ndogo Grounds in Nairobi, brought together the All-Stars team from Season 4 for an immersive experience led by the former international midfielder. The initiative forms part of the build-up to the upcoming Season 5 kickoff scheduled for May 9 in Kisumu County.
Wanyama, who recently announced his retirement from professional football, shared insights drawn from his career, urging the young players to embrace discipline, consistency, and resilience. He emphasised the importance of maintaining peak physical condition and cultivating a strong mindset to thrive in competitive sport.
“If opportunities like Chapa Dimba were available when I was starting out, I would have gone even further in my career. So, I urge the players to grab this opportunity with both hands and work hard as you never know who is watching,” he said.
Beyond the pitch, Wanyama highlighted the importance of financial literacy, encouraging the players to adopt a culture of saving and investing early in their careers, regardless of income levels.
The masterclass also featured interactive drills, with Wanyama, currently pursuing his UEFA coaching licenses, working closely with the players to demonstrate techniques and provide real-time feedback.
The Safaricom Chapa Dimba Tournament continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing grassroots football talent across Kenya, offering a platform for young athletes to develop their skills and gain national visibility.
