MultiChoice Talent Factory Opens Applications for 2026 Pan-African Film and TV Intake

The Pan-African film and television training institution, MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), has launched applications for their 2026 intake, providing aspiring African filmmakers with completely free training opportunities.

The project targets graduates all over the continent with aspirations of becoming directors, producers, scriptwriters, filmmakers, and content creators, as MultiChoice cements its focus on developing local talent on the continent, after its integration into the CANAL+ Group.

In its bid to give the African continent a voice in the international platform through authentic African stories, the empowerment of young Africans with filmmaking and production skills is one of the ideals of the MTF.

The class of 2026 will see the introduction of the full nine-month accredited program. The training sessions for the candidates will take place according to a hybrid model that incorporates both online and face-to-face classes.

With academies in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia, this program targets up-and-coming movie makers from 14 African countries in an endeavor to offer them training in this competitive field of movie and TV production.

Since its inception in 2018, MTF has trained a total of 296 filmmakers and produced more than 42 films. Going through the MTF programme, students acquire both the creative and business side of filmmaking.

They have to carry out their own film projects that air on DStv channels named Maisha Magic, Zambezi Magic, Africa Magic, among others, as well as the streaming channel named Showmax.

MTF alumni have attained great heights after completing their studies, with most employed within the MultiChoice ecosystem on big productions on the continent.

Others have gone on to form their own production houses, with over 50 companies formed by alumni thus far.

The institution’s emphasis on hyperlocal stories has further led to international accolades. MTF alumnus have been nominated and won awards at prominent platforms such as Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), Kalasha awards, Uganda Film Festival, as well as Women in Film Awards.

They have further partnered with other creatives at international markets like the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart.

MTF asserts that the success of their graduates embodies the level of filmmakers that the institution trains and turns out: individuals competent enough to operate at an international level but still tell stories that are intrinsically African.

Application for intake 2026 closes on 27 February 2026. All interested applicants can check program requirements and applications via the MultiChoice Talent Factory website.

For Africans who wish to pursue a career in the cinematographic and television industries, MTF believes the programme provides the essential bridge for the future of the entertainment sector in Africa.
