Safaricom empowered over 2,500 with skills
Safaricom, through its youth-centered platform, Safaricom Hook, concluded a series of transformative engagements across the Greater Western Kenya region. It was part of the M-PESA Sokoni Caravan Tour. The initiative impacted over 2,500 young people in Siaya, Vihiga, and Kisumu, equipping them with practical skills for real-world success
Technical Masterclasses in Siaya Empower Over 2,000 Youth

Held at Siaya National Polytechnic, more than 2,000 youths were trained in hands-on skills, including plumbing, electrical work, hospitality, fashion, and design. However, each participant received a certificate of completion. Exceptional performers were rewarded with tools such as sewing machines, mobile phones, blenders, safety boots, dust coats, and engineering kits.

“We want young people to walk out of school not just with knowledge, but with real tools they can use to start a business, get a job, or pursue their passion,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC. “That’s what Safaricom Hook is all about.”

Boda Boda Operators in Vihiga Trained on Safety and Health

In Vihiga County, the focus shifted to youth in the boda boda sector through the Safaricom Hook Boda Boda Youth Forum. Hosted in Mbale in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Kenya Red Cross, the event trained 250 riders in First Aid, road safety, and health awareness.“We appreciate Safaricom for bringing this training to us. It shows they understand what young people in smaller towns go through daily,” said James Mukoya, Boda Boda Chairperson, Mbihi Stage.

Celebrating Creative Talent in Kisumu
Additionally, at CITAM Hall, Nyalenda in Kisumu, Safaricom Hook hosted a vibrant Visual Arts and Talent Showcase. It attracted 200 contestants who performed in spoken word, music, dance, drama, and visual arts. The event showcased the region’s creative energy and gave participants tools to monetize their talents and access digital platforms.
Driving Youth Empowerment and Digital Inclusion

Furthermore, Safaricom Hooks’ recent tour aligns with the telco’s broader vision of digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship. The platform is designed for youth aged 10 to 24, who can access mentorship, exclusive events, and life-changing opportunities by downloading the Safaricom Hook app or dialling *555#. Through initiatives like the M-PESA Sokoni Caravan Tour, Safaricom continues to affirm its role as a key enabler of youth-driven transformation across Kenya.
