The Nairobi Hospital launches home blood collection service to boost patient convenience

2 Mins read

The Nairobi Hospital has launched a Home Blood Collection Service aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility and convenience for its patients. The service, unveiled on Monday at the hospital’s premises, enables trained phlebotomists to collect blood and other body fluid samples from patients at the comfort of their homes or offices.

This patient-centered innovation is tailored for individuals who face challenges visiting the hospital, including chronically ill and acute patients, pregnant women, children, and people with disabilities. It also caters to busy professionals such as CEOs and entrepreneurs who find it difficult to make time for hospital visits due to their demanding schedules.

Speaking during the launch, The Nairobi Hospital CEO Mr. Felix Osano emphasized the hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services and adapting to patients’ changing needs.

“In today’s fast-paced economy, this service allows patients to receive care at their workplaces, saving valuable time while ensuring that vulnerable individuals in our society are not inconvenienced. This commitment to patient-centered care inspired The Nairobi Hospital to introduce home blood collection services,” Mr. Osano said.

The hospital has put in place a streamlined process to facilitate service requests. Patients can contact a dedicated phone line or email to schedule a collection. Upon request, qualified and licensed laboratory staff will be dispatched to collect the samples and process them promptly.

To support patients further, a dedicated team will assist with insurance approvals. According to Dr. Rahul Zode, The Nairobi Hospital’s Chief Pathologist, the service is inclusive and affordable.

“All patients who wish to use the home blood collection service are eligible. The service is affordable, with a minimal charge of KES 200 per visit, subject to insurance provider approval,” Dr. Zode said.

He also assured patients of confidentiality and reliability, noting that results will be delivered securely through password-protected emails. Patients who prefer hard copies can request them at an additional cost.

The home blood collection service is part of a growing global trend driven by increasing health awareness, digital innovation, and the demand for convenience. With this initiative, The Nairobi Hospital continues to reaffirm its position as a leader in healthcare innovation in Kenya.

“This is not just about convenience. It’s about ensuring that no patient is left behind because of mobility challenges or busy schedules,” added Dr. Zode.

Through this new offering, The Nairobi Hospital demonstrates its ongoing dedication to medical excellence and its mission to make quality healthcare accessible to all.
