Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has announced that over 2,000 housing units under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme are nearing completion and will be handed over to beneficiaries in the coming weeks.
Speaking at Thindigua Comprehensive and Junior School in Kiambu County during the commissioning of four new classrooms funded by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, CS Wahome reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering decent and affordable housing to Kenyans.
According to the CS, more than 1,000 units at the Mukuru Kwa Reuben site in Nairobi are already complete and will be officially handed over to new homeowners on Tuesday. She noted that this milestone is part of President William Ruto’s broader plan to bridge the housing gap and uplift the living standards of low-income earners across the country.
“The Affordable Housing Programme is progressing well. We are not just building houses; we are building communities and creating jobs for our youth,” Wahome said.
At the same event, the CS issued a stern warning to land grabbers and those illegally encroaching on public land. She emphasized that the government would take decisive legal action against anyone found guilty of such offenses.
“We will not tolerate individuals or groups attempting to steal land meant for public use. The law will take its course,” Wahome warned.
The newly commissioned classrooms at Thindigua Comprehensive and Junior School are expected to ease congestion and enhance learning conditions for students in the area, highlighting the government’s integrated approach to development that ties together housing, education, and urban planning.
