Tatu City, the expansive 5,000-acre mixed-use development on the outskirts of Nairobi, has launched Kenya’s largest professionally equipped outdoor gym, creating a landmark fitness and recreation space for the community.
The free-to-access facility, strategically located at Tatu City’s City Park near Unity Homes, is now open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is poised to become a focal point for fitness and socializing.
Featuring a wide array of advanced equipment, including sky steppers, double health walkers, and rowers, Tatu City’s outdoor gym offers a versatile workout environment designed to cater to all fitness levels. The space is enhanced by a thoughtfully designed children’s playground, with swings, slides, and climbing structures, making it an inclusive and family-friendly destination.
As part of Tatu City’s broader Sports@Tatu initiative, the outdoor gym complements a range of recreational facilities, including a 5-a-side football astroturf pitch and a standard-sized basketball court.

In line with its commitment to promoting active lifestyles, Tatu City has also developed over 100 kilometers of pedestrian walkways, cycling paths, and nature trails that meander through lush landscapes, connected by the eco-conscious Green Link network.
“The launch of our outdoor gym and play area marks an exciting chapter in Tatu City’s development,” said Angela Muthoga, Events and Sustainability Manager at Tatu City. “We are committed to offering our residents, businesses, and the general public world-class facilities that enhance their quality of life. This gym is more than just a place to exercise – it’s a space for the community to come together, stay active, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Tatu City.”
The trend of outdoor gyms has been growing in Kenya and across East Africa, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic shifted people toward open-air fitness spaces. Unlike traditional indoor gyms, outdoor gyms are open to the public at no cost, making fitness accessible to people of all income levels and encouraging healthier lifestyles. The popularity of open-air workout spaces has continued to rise as people embrace wellness in outdoor settings, from public parks to residential communities.
Unity Homes, a leading developer of affordable housing in Tatu City, has collaborated on the project, underlining its commitment to creating integrated living spaces enriched by recreational facilities. “We are thrilled to partner with Tatu City to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
The outdoor gym and the broader Sports@Tatu facility complement our mission to offer affordable, family-friendly homes surrounded by ample green spaces and modern amenities,” said Kanana Ndegwa, Head of Marketing at Unity Homes.
Beyond its gym, Tatu City’s sporting agenda has generated widespread interest, with recent events including Kiambu County’s largest running event, attracting over 5,000 participants, and a cycling competition featuring over 500 professional cyclists.
As the popularity of outdoor gyms continues to grow, Tatu City’s new facility positions itself as a pioneering space, blending fitness, family engagement, and green infrastructure into a vibrant and accessible community asset.
