The National Police Service Commission is conducting promotion interviews for 183 Chief Inspectors of Police, who are vying for the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police. These interviews, which began on Tuesday, will continue until Tuesday, October 29, and are being held at the Commission’s offices located in CBK Pension Towers, Nairobi.

The interviews mark the culmination of both the Higher Training Course and the Senior Training Course, which are designed to equip officers for leadership roles within the Kenya Police Service, the Administration Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Eliud Kinuthia, the Chair of the National Police Service Commission, stated that the interviews aim to assess the officers on a range of critical competencies, including governance, financial management, communication skills, ethics, leadership, and general police work. “This process will ensure that only the best-suited officers are promoted based on merit and their service record,” Kinuthia emphasized.

All 183 officers have completed promotion courses and were selected based on a rigorous criteria set by the Commission. The criteria include performance in service, leadership potential, and adherence to the principles of the police service.

The officers who successfully pass the interviews will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and assigned to higher responsibilities, many at or above the Sub-County command level.

In his remarks, Kinuthia also mentioned that the Commission plans to publish the names of all promoted officers in the Kenya Gazette. Since 2019, the Commission has promoted 515 Chief Inspectors to higher ranks as part of ongoing reforms and capacity-building within the police service.

This promotion exercise reflects the Commission’s commitment to enhancing leadership within the police forces and ensuring that officers are adequately prepared for higher responsibilities.
