President Ruto Announces First Batch of New Cabinet, to be Vetted by National Assembly Amidst National Crisis

President William Ruto has unveiled the first batch of his new cabinet appointments, amidst tremendous anxiety, concern, and uncertainty period for Kenya. Speaking to the nation, President Ruto emphasized the need for urgent reforms and broad-based government action to address pressing national issues.

Over the past month, Kenya has faced significant challenges, including economic strain, public debt concerns, and high unemployment rates. These issues have sparked a national conversation on governance, economic management, and the need for increased transparency and accountability.

In response, President Ruto outlined a series of measures aimed at addressing these challenges. Key among these is the acceleration of food production programs to reduce the cost of living, expansion of job-creation initiatives to tackle unemployment, and the implementation of innovative, transparent mechanisms for the prudent use of public resources.

“The crisis has presented us with a great opportunity to craft a broad-based, inclusive citizen coalition for national transformation and progress,” President Ruto stated. He emphasized the importance of an inclusive government that harnesses the potential of all citizens to drive national transformation.

To spearhead this transformation, President Ruto announced the nomination of the following individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly:

1. Ministry of the Interior and National Administration: Prof. Kithure Kindiki

2. Ministry of Health: Dr. Debra Mlongo Barasa

3. Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development: Alice Wahome

4. Ministry of Education:Julius Migos Ogamba

5. Ministry of Defence: Aden Barre Duale

6. Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development: Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja

7. Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry: Roselinda Soipan Tuiya

8. Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation:Eric Muriithi Muuga

9. Ministry of Roads and Transport: Davis Chirchir

10. Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy: Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u

11. Attorney-General:Rebecca Miano

President Ruto assured the nation that further consultations are ongoing, and additional cabinet nominations will be announced in due course. He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the country’s challenges and steering Kenya towards a path of economic transformation and inclusive growth.

“The opportunity before us is greater than the crisis. Together, we have a chance to take our country where we all want it to be and make our nation the Kenya we all want: a great nation,” President Ruto said.
