In addition, the Foundation funded a multi-specialty medical camp for KES 3 million at King Fahad Referral Hospital and Mokowe Sub-County Hospital. During the three-day camp at King Fahad Referral Hospital, doctors performed 57 successful surgeries.

The newly equipped facilities at Mokowe Sub-County Hospital include oxygen machines, nebulizers, medicine trolleys, suction machines, delivery beds, screening equipment, infant monitoring equipment, maternity chairs, and various surgical tools. These enhancements will enable the hospital to perform orthopedic, gynecological, and ophthalmic surgeries and treat chronic illnesses. Women suffering from fistula will also benefit from corrective surgeries.

This time round, we are expanding health services to residents of Mokowe while at the same time impacting over 900 residents of Lamu through our extensive medical camps,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation.

Governor Issa Timamy of Lamu County expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing its role in addressing critical healthcare challenges. “Access to healthcare is a critical need among our people, and we thank M-PESA Foundation for boosting our efforts in this sector. We look forward to improving health outcomes with the equipping of Mokowe Sub-County Hospital,” he said.

The medical camp also offered orthopedic and pediatric care and specialist consultations via telemedicine technology. Additionally, 100 mama packs were distributed to women who delivered at King Fahad Referral Hospital as part of maternal care support.
