More than 2,700 residents of Githurai, Nairobi County, received free medical services at a medical camp hosted by the M-Pesa Foundation in partnership with Zuri Health and Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital. The camp was held at Kwa Ng’ethe Primary School and is part of M-Pesa Foundation’s comprehensive response plan to support Kenyans in times of need.
The Foundation invested KES 6 million in the camp, which offered a range of medical services including eye care consultations, breast and cervical cancer screenings, fistula screenings, general doctor consultations, diabetes screenings, hypertension monitoring, and health consultations for the elderly and children.
Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, emphasized the company’s commitment to community healthcare through its various foundations. “Safaricom, through our Foundations, is committed to transforming lives. Healthcare is one of the major needs of the community which has ensured we invest in medical camps to support communities in all 47 counties. We are also alive to the ongoing situation where some Kenyans need support. That is why we are currently standing with people at this time of need through several interventions, including this camp,” he said.

Following the Githurai camp, the M-Pesa Foundation plans to hold another medical camp in Ongata Rongai on July 12, 2024. In addition to these camps, the M-Pesa and Safaricom Foundations are also providing aftercare for patients and infrastructure development support for hospitals as part of their broader response measures.
Since April this year, the M-Pesa Foundation has conducted four medical camps in Siaya, Mathare, Machakos, and Bungoma, impacting over 14,000 people.
