Cassava Technologies, a global technology leader with African roots, has entered into a strategic partnership with Zindi. Africa’s largest professional network for data scientists, to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) innovation across the continent.
Announced through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the collaboration aims to combine Cassava’s advanced GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) infrastructure with Zindi’s robust AI talent network to create impactful, homegrown digital solutions. The agreement marks a significant step in Africa’s digital transformation journey, focusing on boosting AI capabilities and nurturing local talent.
The partnership will see Zindi leverage Cassava’s GPUaaS infrastructure to develop AI solutions, while both organizations work together to identify opportunities that mutually strengthen their platforms and ecosystems.
“For Africa’s AI ecosystem to grow and thrive, it is essential to provide platforms and resources for the continent’s developers and start-ups,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies. “Combining our data centres’ advanced GPU capabilities with Zindi’s innovative data science platform creates a powerful foundation for digital advancement.”
Zindi, known for hosting data science competitions that tackle real-world African problems, views the collaboration as a major boost to local innovation. “Zindi is thrilled at the opportunity to partner with Cassava Technologies to strengthen African datasets, address local problems with locally-developed solutions, and help more African AI builders access the resources they need to succeed,” said Celina Lee, Zindi CEO and Co-Founder.
The two companies also plan to launch an AI challenge aimed at nurturing Africa’s AI talent—creating new skills development pathways and employment opportunities while driving solution-oriented innovation.
This initiative aligns with Cassava’s broader strategic vision of advancing responsible AI across Africa, following its 2024 launch of an AI-focused business unit and plans to build the continent’s first AI factory.
With this partnership, Cassava and Zindi are poised to make significant contributions to Africa’s growing AI ecosystem, providing critical infrastructure, skills development, and a platform for homegrown innovation.
