1 Mins read

Proto Energy Limited has made a significant stride in environmental conservation, saving 7,085.76 tonnes of CO2 in the first half of 2025, according to its latest Sustainability Report.

This reduction, equivalent to growing 4,723.84 hectares of eucalyptus trees for a year, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Robust ESG Framework

Titled Creating a World of Endless Possibilities Through Sustainable Practices, the report highlights Proto Energy’s integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

 Aligned with UN Sustainable Development

Goals like Clean Energy and Climate Action, the company’s strategy focuses on three pillars: Environmental Impact, Social Responsibility, and Governance. “Sustainability is essential,” said CEO Joel Kamau. “We’re embedding it to deliver clean, accessible LPG while protecting the environment.”Community and Environmental Impact

Proto Energy’s initiatives in 2025 include converting 38 schools to cleaner LPG cooking systems, improving student health, and conducting three medical camps for staff and communities.

The company also empowered 37 female employees through a leadership program, reinforcing its social responsibility commitment. Environmentally, Proto Energy planted 600 trees across its sites, with its Miritini Plant earning top honours in the Oil and Gas category at the DOSH awards.

Ambitious Future Goals

Looking ahead, Proto Energy aims to achieve Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2040, restore 100 hectares of forested areas by 2030, and transition 50 additional schools to LPG cooking by 2027. “Our ambition is to fuel a sustainable, inclusive future for Kenya,” Kamau added. A Roadmap for Change

However, EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo said the success of the clean cooking transition will hinge on both effective regulation and the adoption of innovative technologies that guarantee safety and sustainability in the LPG market.

With a sustainability framework set for completion by mid-2026, Proto Energy is poised to lead Kenya’s clean energy transition.

The full 2025 Sustainability Report, detailing its roadmap and achievements, is available on the company’s website, offering a blueprint for sustainable innovation in the energy sector
