Health officials in Bungoma County have confirmed one death linked to Mpox disease. Three other people who tested positive for Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) are undergoing treatment.
The cases were detected at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, amid growing concerns about the spread of the virus through key border points. Dr. Caleb Wata, a senior health officer at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, confirmed that the deceased is a truck driver.
Dr. Wata emphasised that the death was not directly caused by the virus but rather due to underlying health conditions. Dr. Wata assured the public that there is active surveillance in place to curb the spread of the virus.
Since the Mpox outbreak began in July last year, health teams have conducted routine screening at the Lwakhakha border post, a key entry point between Kenya and Uganda.
