Government launches enhanced single registry data collection in 12 counties

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has initiated a significant data collection exercise for the Enhanced Single Registry (ESR) in 12 counties across Kenya.

This initiative aims to systematically gather, update, and link information regarding vulnerable individuals and households, ensuring they receive appropriate services and support.

The ESR serves as a comprehensive socio-economic database designed to streamline social protection programs in the country. According to Principal Secretary for Social Protection, Joseph Motari, the registry will serve as a centralized platform where essential information can be stored, analyzed, and reported. “The Enhanced Single Registry is a crucial tool for managing data related to vulnerable households in Kenya. It not only facilitates informed decision-making but also ensures that resources are allocated effectively to those in need,” Motari stated

One of the key objectives of the ESR is to enhance the efficiency of service delivery by preventing individuals and households from receiving multiple benefits across various programs. This mechanism is expected to create a fairer distribution of resources, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.

The data collection exercise is particularly vital as it targets the most vulnerable populations, including low-income families, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. By creating an up-to-date and accurate database, the government aims to improve the implementation of social protection initiatives and monitor their effectiveness.

Local leaders and community organizations are being engaged to facilitate the data collection process, ensuring community participation and trust in the system. This collaborative approach is essential in reaching households that might otherwise be overlooked.

The ESR is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping future policies and programs aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing social welfare in Kenya. With a focus on inclusivity, the government is committed to creating a more equitable system that addresses the diverse needs of its population.

As the data collection unfolds, stakeholders are optimistic that the Enhanced Single Registry will lead to more targeted interventions, improved living standards, and ultimately, a more resilient society. The Ministry encourages all eligible households to participate in the exercise, emphasizing that their input is crucial for the success of this initiative.
