CFAO Introduces Locally Assembled Toyota Hilux

CFAO Mobility Kenya has introduced the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux into the local market, bringing improved performance, fuel efficiency and modern features to one of the country’s most popular pickup models.

Launched in Nairobi on October 29, 2026, the new Hilux, branded the “New Shujaa,” has been adapted to withstand Kenya’s challenging weather and road conditions. It is also assembled locally, continuing the company’s efforts to support Kenya’s automotive manufacturing industry.

The latest model builds on nearly 60 years of Toyota’s global history and eight generations of service to Kenyan farmers, contractors, entrepreneurs and businesses. It maintains Toyota’s Quality, Durability and Reliability promise while offering improved comfort, technology and performance.

The vehicle is initially available in a 2.8-litre Double Cab automatic version, with Mid and High specifications retailing at KSh7.87 million and KSh10.84 million, respectively.

Industry data from January to August 2026 shows that Kenya’s new vehicle market expanded by 24.8 per cent to 10,944 units, while pickup sales increased by 52.6 per cent to 2,949 units. During the same period, Hilux sales through CFAO Mobility Kenya grew by more than 20 per cent to 850 units.

The pickup remains an important tool for Kenya’s estimated 7.4 million micro, small and medium enterprises, which provide nearly 15 million jobs and contribute about 30 per cent of the country’s economic output.

Locally assembled at CKD Level 2 since 2019, the new Hilux is powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine producing 150kW and 500Nm of torque. Its six-speed automatic transmission offers Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes. The vehicle also supports a payload of approximately 1,000kg, towing capacity of 3,500kg and fuel consumption of 12 kilometres per litre.

Inside, the Mid specification features an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, cruise control and parking sensors. The High version adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen, premium audio, leather seats, a 360-degree camera and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

“Eight generations on, the New Shujaa is our investment in the next chapter of Kenyan enterprise: tropicalised, assembled here by Kenyans, and engineered to give our customers greater efficiency and unrivalled Quality, Durability and Reliability,” said CFAO Mobility Kenya Managing Director Arvinder Reel.

The company offers after-sales support through more than 50 branches, dealerships and authorised service centres, alongside genuine spare parts and a five-year or 150,000-kilometre warranty. Customers can also access financing of up to 100 per cent through partner banks. CFAO plans to expand the lineup in 2027 with 2.4-litre and Single Cab models.
