NCBA Group has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation and youth empowerment after supporting the launch of the 2026 First Lady’s Mazingira Awards (FLAMA) in Mombasa.
The initiative seeks to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and motivation to participate in environmental conservation and climate action, encouraging sustainable practices in schools, homes and communities.
In a statement issued on October 9, 2026, NCBA said its continued partnership with FLAMA reflects its commitment to promoting environmental responsibility among young people and supporting practical solutions to climate change.
The bank has planted more than two million trees that have survived after planting, highlighting its focus on long-term environmental impact rather than tree planting alone.
In 2025, NCBA also planted 3,000 mangrove trees in Kwale County and participated in a coastal clean-up exercise aimed at supporting environmental restoration and protecting coastal ecosystems.
Through FLAMA, the lender seeks to encourage learners to turn environmental awareness into practical action within their schools and surrounding communities.
Since 2023, NCBA has supported the programme by providing tablets to learners, backing the awards and contributing technical expertise through the FLAMA Technical Working Group.
The support is intended to strengthen learners’ access to technology and knowledge while encouraging them to develop solutions to environmental challenges affecting their communities.
Beyond conservation, NCBA continues to support youth empowerment initiatives across the creative economy, agriculture and technology sectors, helping young people access opportunities to innovate, develop skills and participate in economic growth.
The bank said the partnership aligns with its Change the Story sustainability agenda, which focuses on supporting initiatives that deliver lasting social and environmental impact.
The First Lady’s Mazingira Awards provide a platform for learners to participate in environmental activities and demonstrate how schools can contribute to Kenya’s climate action agenda.
By combining environmental education with practical community initiatives, the programme aims to encourage behavioural change and build a culture of environmental responsibility among the younger generation.
NCBA’s continued involvement highlights the role of private-sector partnerships in supporting environmental education, youth participation and community-led conservation efforts across Kenya.
