Absa Next Unveiled as Kenya’s First Integrated Digital Financial Solution

Absa Bank Kenya PLC has launched Absa Next, a fully integrated digital financial ecosystem that brings together banking, savings, investments, credit and lifestyle services on a single platform.

The new solution is designed to respond to changing consumer expectations by providing customers with greater control, convenience and personalised financial services through a digital-first experience.

Absa says the platform moves beyond the traditional banking model by allowing consumers and entrepreneurs to manage different aspects of their financial lives from one place.

Speaking during the launch, Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Omari said the platform represents a shift in the way financial services are designed and delivered.

“Consumer expectations are changing rapidly. People want financial solutions that are intuitive, personalised and seamlessly integrated into their daily lives,” Omari said.

He added that Absa Next was developed by rethinking the banking experience around customers’ goals, behaviours and aspirations rather than simply digitising conventional banking services.

The platform is available to both existing Absa customers and non-customers, with a range of features aimed at simplifying financial management while supporting savings, investment and wealth creation.

Through Absa Next, customers can save and invest individually or as groups, with flexible savings options of up to 7% and investment solutions offering returns of up to 16%, according to the bank.

The platform also provides access to instant credit ranging from as little as KES 500 to KES 1 million for personal and business needs.

Customers can further view and manage their personal and business finances through a single dashboard, link both Absa and non-Absa Visa cards, and split expenses with family and friends.

The digital ecosystem also incorporates goal-based and gamified savings tools intended to encourage customers to build financial discipline while working towards specific financial targets.

Another key feature is open banking, which allows customers to aggregate accounts held with other financial institutions into a single view. This gives users the ability to monitor different financial relationships without switching between multiple platforms.

Absa Next also uses alternative credit-scoring capabilities, incorporating a broader range of financial behaviours and data points to support access to credit.

The bank said the approach is intended to expand financial access by moving beyond traditional credit assessment methods.

Absa Group Chief Executive for Personal and Private Banking, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, said Kenya was selected to pioneer the platform because of the country’s track record in financial innovation.

“Kenya has consistently demonstrated its ability to develop innovations that solve real customer challenges and influence financial services across the continent,” Lopokoiyit said.

He said Absa Next was informed by the experiences and needs of Kenyan consumers and could eventually influence how the group serves customers in other African markets.

Absa Bank Kenya Consumer Banking Director Moses Muthui said the platform reflects the growing convergence between digital lifestyles and financial needs.

“The next generation of consumers expects banking to be simple, intelligent and always accessible,” Muthui said, adding that digital platforms have become the primary way many consumers engage with brands, services and their finances.

Absa Next was developed in Kenya using scalable cloud-based infrastructure and is expected to provide a blueprint for future digital banking innovation across the Absa Group’s operations.

The bank said development of the platform involved extensive customer engagement and continuous testing. It will also continue to evolve based on customer feedback and changing financial behaviours.

For Absa, the launch represents an effort to position digital banking around customers’ financial journeys, from everyday transactions and savings to borrowing, investment and business growth.

Omari said the platform represents the next stage for customers as they navigate different life milestones and financial goals, while creating new opportunities for individuals and business owners to grow, invest and build their future.
