NCBA Group Chief Executive Officer John Gachora has been recognised among Africa’s Top 25 Banking and Finance Executives for 2026 by Pan African Voice, highlighting his influence in shaping the continent’s evolving financial-services landscape.

The recognition places Gachora among 25 leading banking and finance executives whose vision, judgement and institutional leadership are driving transformation across Africa’s financial sector.

According to Pan African Voice, the leaders are advancing financial inclusion, accelerating innovation, transforming institutions and strengthening Africa’s position as a more resilient and globally connected economic force.

Gachora has led NCBA through a period of significant regional growth, with the Kenyan financial institution expanding its presence across East and Central Africa while strengthening its digital banking and financial-services offerings.

His leadership has been shaped by extensive experience in both global and African financial markets. Before joining the African banking sector, Gachora held senior positions at Bank of America Securities and later served as Managing Director for Corporate and Investment Banking at Barclays Africa.

That international experience has informed his leadership at NCBA, where corporate and investment banking operations operate alongside an expanding retail and digital banking business.

Under Gachora, NCBA has continued to invest in digital financial services and mobile lending platforms, helping expand access to formal financial services for millions of customers.

The recognition also highlights Gachora’s role in steering NCBA following its landmark merger, which helped create one of East Africa’s prominent regional financial-services groups.

His academic credentials further distinguish his career. Gachora holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as an MBA from the Wharton School.

His combination of engineering, technology, investment banking and African market experience has positioned him as a leader operating at the intersection of finance and financial technology.

Pan African Voice describes the executives featured in its 2026 list as leaders who are not only managing financial institutions but also helping shape the future of African economies through innovation, inclusion and institutional growth.

Gachora’s inclusion therefore marks recognition of his individual leadership as well as the broader transformation of NCBA into a digitally driven regional financial-services group.

As African financial institutions navigate rapid technological change, increasing demand for financial inclusion and greater regional integration, Gachora’s profile reflects the emergence of a new generation of banking leadership—one combining global financial expertise with a deep understanding of Africa’s markets and opportunities.
