Kenya’s healthcare sector is gaining recognition as a regional leader in specialised medical services, with recent milestones in cardiac care underscoring the country’s growing capacity to deliver advanced treatments locally.
Healthcare leaders say the achievement reflects sustained investment in expertise, technology, and institutional development, positioning Kenya as a destination for complex medical procedures that were previously only accessible abroad.
Speaking on the development, Dr Jeilan emphasised that the focus extends beyond treatment to long-term capacity building within the continent’s health systems.
“Our goal is not only to treat patients, but to build capacity. We want to train African cardiologists, expand access to modern therapies, and reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment.
This achievement demonstrates that, with the right expertise and institutional commitment, highly specialised therapies can be delivered locally,” he said.
The milestone comes at a time when cardiovascular disease is on the rise across Africa, placing increased pressure on healthcare systems to adopt innovative solutions.
Specialists note that emerging technologies such as leadless pacing are set to play a critical role in improving patient outcomes and strengthening cardiac care infrastructure.
