Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged Despite Rising Import Costs – EPRA

1 Mins read

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that fuel prices in Kenya will remain unchanged for the period between March 15 and April 14, 2026, despite an increase in the global landed cost of petroleum products.

In a statement issued under Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019, EPRA said the maximum retail prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will remain the same during the review period.

The regulator noted that the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol rose by 1.00 percent from USD 576.34 per cubic metre in January 2026 to USD 582.11 in February 2026.

Diesel recorded a sharper increase of 8.46 percent, rising from USD 586.80 to USD 636.45 per cubic metre, while Kerosene increased by 6.79 percent from USD 598.82 to USD 639.48 over the same period.

EPRA explained that the fuel prices include the 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with provisions of the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, as well as revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation.

According to the authority, the pricing review considered petroleum cargo vessels that were received and discharged between February 10 and March 9, 2026. Most of these shipments were February-priced cargoes, meaning recent tensions in the Middle East have not yet impacted local pump prices.

Kenya imports all its petroleum products in refined form, with international pricing benchmarks and the exchange rate between the US dollar and Kenyan shilling influencing local fuel costs.

EPRA said the petroleum pricing regulations are designed to cap retail fuel prices to ensure importation and operational costs are recovered while protecting consumers from excessive charges.
