1 Mins read

Residents of Nairobi have been warned to prepare for heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, even as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of recent deadly floods.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast showers and thunderstorms across several parts of the country this evening. In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, the weatherman says showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in a few areas tonight.

Other counties expected to receive rainfall include Nyeri County, Murang’a County, Kirinyaga County, Embu County, Meru County, Kiambu County, Tharaka Nithi County, Laikipia County and Nyandarua County.

Authorities say the floods caused widespread destruction, with homes submerged and infrastructure damaged in several areas.

Residents living in flood-prone areas have been urged to remain vigilant as authorities continue monitoring the evolving weather situation.

In Mathare, one of the areas hardest hit by the recent floods, more than 1,500 families have received relief food and essential supplies from the government.

While overseeing the distribution exercise, Simon Odhiambo Osumba, the Nairobi North Sub-County Commissioner, called on residents living in flood-prone zones to relocate to safer grounds to avoid further loss of life.

Meanwhile, parents and residents from different parts of the country are now calling on the government to put in place long-term solutions to address the recurring destruction caused by seasonal rains.

Additionary, authorities have urged the public to follow weather updates and heed safety advisories as the rainy conditions persist.
