Safaricom has emerged as the leading corporate team as the PGK Equator Tour enters its final leg at the par-72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club, setting the stage for a high-stakes season finale running from Thursday, January 22 to Sunday, January 25.
The Safaricom team of Samuel Njoroge, Mutahi Kibugu, Mohit Mediratta and Matthew Wahome tops the corporate standings with 7,575 points, ahead of Kenya Airways (5,635), Visa Team (4,745), Johnnie Walker (4,460), NCBA (4,370) and Britam (1,810).
Kenya’s professional golfers will be battling for crucial qualification points, with places at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games on the line. A total of 35 golfers are expected to compete as the tour concludes.
Standout performer Samuel Njoroge will be looking to cap off an impressive season, while local favourites Mutahi Kibugu and Matthew Wahome aim to shine on home turf. Mohit Mediratta, meanwhile, will be seeking a return to form as he challenges for the tournament title.
“The PGK Equator Tour has been an incredible journey for all of us. The competition has been intense, and every leg has pushed us to raise our game,” said Njoroge. “Leading the table heading into the finale is a huge motivation and a reflection of our consistency and hard work. Playing the final leg at Royal Nairobi makes it even more special.”
Launched in July last year, the PGK Equator Tour has been staged at top courses across the country, including Ruiru Sports Club, Limuru Country Club, Great Rift Valley Lodge, Nakuru Golf Club, Diamond Leisure Golf Resort and Sigona Golf Club. The series has played a key role in raising the standard of professional golf in Kenya while growing fan engagement.
The Royal Nairobi finale is expected to deliver a fitting climax, combining elite competition with opportunities for fans to engage with Kenya’s emerging golfing talent.
“As the PGK Equator Tour comes to a close, we are proud to support these four exceptional golfers,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa. “They have shown resilience and showcased the talent Kenya has to offer when given the right platform, even as they pursue Olympic qualification.”
Safaricom is among the tour’s corporate sponsors, committing KES 3 million to support Njoroge, Mediratta, Kibugu and Wahome. The sponsorship has boosted competitiveness and visibility across the tour, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to sports development and nurturing Kenyan talent.
