Kenya to Host First Africa–France Summit Outside Francophone Africa in May

Kenya is preparing to host the AfricaFrance Summit in Nairobi on May 11, 12, 2026. This will be the first time the summit goes outside the Francophone Africa since it started in 1973.

Prime cabinet secretary and cabinet secretary for foreign and diaspora affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, stated that the government has the will to organize a fruitful summit which of course will have a major focus on the summits results being tangible, bankable, and monitorable.

Mudavadi was talking in Paris after his meeting with the France Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean, Nol Barrot. He said that the summit was very significant to Kenya and the whole continent and the fact that Kenya is hosting the forum gives Kenya a platform to widen its diplomatic stature and the leadership role in Africa, Europe relations.

The summit’s major areas of interest will be reform of the international financial architecture, energy transition, green industrialisation, digital innovation, sustainable agriculture, health systems strengthening and climate action. These focus areas will help Africa realize its development goals and also Africa’s contribution to solving the global issues of climate change and economic inequality.

Mudavadi also emphasized that Kenya would like to make sure that the talks result in commitments that are not only words but actions as well, thus they would be a real support to Africas development.agenda, notably in unlock of affordable financing, rapid adoption of clean energy and promotion of inclusive economic growth.

The French government declares that the Nairobi summit is intended to re, express France’s relationship with Africa through diversity and inclusiveness in the organising and content of the forum. It will also mirror a refreshed partnership method between France and African countries.

Besides the summit preparations, the talks in Paris also included bilateral issues such as peace and security, health cooperation, infrastructure development, and aviation. Both sides reiterated their commitment to boosting KenyaFrance relations in these sectors.

Keen on the preparations Kenya is using the AfricaFrance Summit to position it as a platform for elevating meaningful dialogue and partnership. The main objective of Kenya’s AfricaFrance Summit is to be a platform for dialogues and partnerships that tackle economic, social, and environmental challenges of the continent.
