KSG & Huawei Explore Strategic Partnership for Public Sector Transformation

2 Mins read

The Kenya School of Government (KSG) and Huawei Kenya have initiated discussions toward a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating digital transformation within Kenya’s public sector.

The engagement, held on January 8, 2026 at the KSG Lower Kabete Campus, brought together senior officials from both institutions to explore collaboration in strengthening executive-level digital capacity across government.

The proposed partnership will focus on advanced skills development in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital governance. Through this collaboration, KSG aims to position itself as a national center of excellence for public sector digital leadership, equipping senior public officers with future-ready competencies to enhance service delivery, institutional performance, and data protection.

Central to the discussions was the possibility of signing a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aligned with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the National Digital Masterplan 2022–2032. The collaboration seeks to support leadership development at national and county levels while advancing Kenya’s broader digital economy agenda.

Established under the Kenya School of Government Act, 2012, KSG is mandated to build the capacity of the public service through leadership training, policy advisory, research, and consultancy. As a flagship Vision 2030 institution, it plays a critical role in nurturing ethical, competent, and performance-oriented leadership across government ministries, state corporations, and constitutional commissions.

The engagement comes against the backdrop of key national ICT milestones. In March 2025, Kenya launched the National AI Strategy 2025–2030, positioning the country as a regional leader in AI innovation and governance.

The strategy outlines a roadmap for expanding digital infrastructure, strengthening data ecosystems, and promoting localized AI research to support sustainable development.

Kenya has also put in place robust legal frameworks, including the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018, and the Data Protection Act, 2019, to safeguard digital systems and personal data.

KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed underscored the importance of digital capacity in the public sector, noting that the partnership with Huawei would help build a workforce proficient in applying AI, cloud, and cybersecurity tools to improve public service delivery while safeguarding citizen data.

Huawei Kenya, which has an ongoing record of ICT capacity building in the country, said the engagement builds on its existing partnerships with government agencies such as the Ministry of Interior and the National Computer and Cybercrimes Co-ordination Committee. To date, these initiatives have trained over 400 government officers in advanced cybersecurity and digital skills.

Huawei Kenya Public Affairs Director Yuta Leng reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s digital transformation, emphasizing that the partnership with KSG would help integrate practical AI and cloud applications into executive development programs.

The engagement marks a significant step toward strengthening public-private partnerships in support of Kenya’s national ICT and socio-economic transformation goals.
