250 Youths Drive Digital Future with DigiTruck Graduation in Dagoretti North
Two hundred and fifty young people from Dagoretti North have now benefited from the DigiTruck Digital Literacy Initiative, which has been an important milestone in their absorption into the digitally driven economy in Kenya.
The graduation ceremony, which was chaired by the Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Hon. Beatrice Elachi, saw the coming together of community leaders and program partners to celebrate the end of intensive and practical training in basic computer technology skills, internet safety, and innovation.
Addressing the participants, Hon. Elachi stated that the programme was translating the potential of the youth into opportunities as “digital skills are now fundamental for access to employment, for entrepreneurship, and for engagement with the global economy.” She further added that capacitating the youth with the relevant digital skills would enable the development of sustainable livelihoods.
The DigiTruck initiative is implemented by Huawei Technologies in line with its efforts aimed at enhancing digital inclusion. Through this community development initiative, digital skills education is offered in the neighborhoods in a bid to reach form four leavers, as well as those who are jobless and lack access to digital learning environments.
This, according to Huawei Technologies Kenya Director of Public Affairs, Yuta Leng, is what the initiative is all about: offering learning
experiences with tangible results and impact outside the walls of the classrooms. “DigiTruck brings learning closer to the community, and in doing so, it equips the youth with the inspiration and initiative to drive their learning into taking an active role in shaping the digital Kenya,” he explained.
DigiTruck is a solar-powered moving classroom equipped with laptops and high-speed internet connectivity. The initiative has since trained thousands of Kenyan individuals across the country since its inception and has made a significant impact on the employability and growth of entrepreneurial Kenyans.
The initiative fits within the Kenya government’s agenda in terms of it focusing on ensuring that it has a future-ready workforce
