TVS Motor Company, a global leader in two- and three-wheeler manufacturing, has launched the TVS Apache RTR 180 in Kenya, marking a major milestone in its expansion across East Africa.
The launch, done in partnership with long-time African distributor Car & General, brings one of the world’s most celebrated racing motorcycle series to Kenyan roads.
The arrival of the TVS Apache in Kenya introduces more than two decades of race-bred engineering, technological advancement, and a community of over 6.5 million riders across 60 countries. The Apache brand, built on TVSM’s “Track to Road” philosophy, promises Kenyan urban riders a blend of performance, style, and innovation rooted in 43 years of racing heritage.
The newly launched TVS Apache RTR 180 features a 177.4cc high-performance engine delivering 15.22 PS at 8,500 RPM and 14.1 Nm torque at 6,500 RPM. It comes equipped with disc brakes, adjustable race-tuned suspension, a 5-speed gearbox, wider rear tubeless tyres, and a beast-inspired LED headlamp, positioning it as a strong competitor in the premium commuter motorcycle segment.
Speaking during the launch, Mr. Peyman Kargar, President – International Business at TVS Motor Company, said Kenya plays a pivotal role in the company’s African expansion strategy.
“Kenya is central to TVSM’s continental ambitions, given its role as a regional commercial hub and its influence on motorcycle culture across East Africa,” he said. “The nation’s evolving infrastructure and community of discerning riders make it ideal for the Apache’s debut. With the RTR 180, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering performance-led, premium mobility solutions across Africa.”
Car & General CEO Vijay Gidoomal noted that the new model will appeal particularly to younger riders seeking a dynamic blend of power, comfort, and efficiency.
“This launch marks an important step in enhancing the motorcycle landscape in Kenya. The TVS Apache RTR 180 combines advanced performance and reliability, making it ideal for both urban and off-road environments,” he said. “We expect it to accelerate growth in the premium motorcycle segment.”
The TVS Apache RTR 180 will be available across 12 Car & General outlets in Kenya and will retail at KES 269,990. Buyers can choose from Pearl White, Matte Blue, Gloss Black and Matte Grey colour options.
The launch comes as TVS Motor celebrates 20 years of the Apache series, known globally for its design, engineering and racing DNA. The company has been ramping up its research and development efforts, with investments rising from ₹495 crore in FY 2022–23 to ₹1,025 crore in FY 2024–25, supported by a team of over 2,000 engineers and technology specialists.
