The M-PESA Foundation has announced a KES 35 million investment in new learning facilities at Limbine Primary School in Meru County, reaffirming its commitment to improving access to quality education across Kenya.
The project, undertaken under the Foundation’s flagship Citizens of the Future Programme, will include the construction of six new classrooms for GrGrades to 6, renovation of four existing classrooms, a science laboratory, and ablution blocks for both learners and staff. Additionally, the Foundation will renovate the administration block and build a modern kitchen to support the school’s feeding programme.
The comprehensive infrastructure upgrade is expected to benefit over 520 learners, providing a conducive environment for learning and development.
“Education is a great equaliser, opening doors and improving people’s lives regardless of their background or circumstances,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation. “However, inadequate infrastructure remains a major barrier to quality education. That is why M-PESA Foundation has invested in education in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, County Governments, and local communities.”
Since its inception, Safaricom, through its foundations, has invested KES 126 million in education projects across Meru County. The most recent initiative before Limbine was at Lubunu Primary School, where construction of school facilities is currently underway.
This latest investment is part of the Foundation’s long-term strategy to address inequalities in the education sector by enhancing infrastructure, especially in underserved regions.
