SuperSport, the leading sports broadcaster on DStv and GOtv, has announced it will broadcast every match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) live from August 2 to 30, 2025.

The 8th edition of CHAN – postponed from early 2025 due to infrastructure delays – marks a historic first as it will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, becoming the first-ever tri-nation CHAN tournament.

The event showcases 19 national teams composed solely of players from their respective domestic leagues. This edition’s unusual number of participants stems from CAF’s regional qualification format and team withdrawals. Although Uganda had already qualified as a co-host, it also secured a spot through qualifiers, while Libya, initially a qualifier from North Africa, withdrew due to fixture congestion.

CAF maintained the total team count at 19 by redistributing slots.CHAN 2024 is more than just a football tournament – it serves as a crucial dress rehearsal for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will also be co-hosted by the three East African nations.

CHAN will help test stadium readiness, security protocols, fan engagement, logistics, and overall tournament operations. Newly renovated and constructed venues – such as Kasarani and Nyayo in Kenya, Benjamin Mkapa in Tanzania, and Namboole in Uganda – are expected to be under the spotlight.

Launched in 2009, CHAN is held every two years and offers a platform for players active in local leagues to shine on the continental stage. Past winners include DR Congo (2009, 2016), Tunisia (2011), Libya (2014), Morocco (2018, 2020), and most recently Senegal, who won the 2023 edition after beating Algeria on penalties.

Favourites for CHAN 2024 include:Morocco – Back-to-back champions in 2018 and 2020, boasting a strong domestic league and a disciplined squad.Senegal – Defending champions with tactical depth and tournament experience.

Nigeria – Returning after a brief absence, having impressed with a decisive qualification win over Ghana. DR Congo – Two-time champions with a solid tournament pedigree.Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda – While not top favourites, home advantage could play a key role in their performance.
