President Ruto Celebrates Dairy Sector Boom, Applauds Kenya Dairy Board’s Tireless Leadership

President Dr William Ruto has hailed the remarkable progress in Kenya’s dairy sector, attributing much of the success to the relentless efforts of the Kenya Dairy Board under the visionary leadership of National Chairman Genesio Mugo.

Speaking during the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day at the Meru ASK Showground, the President praised the sweeping agricultural reforms that continue to empower farmers, with the dairy sector emerging as one of the most vibrant success stories.

“Our reforms in agriculture are bearing fruit. In the dairy sector, we have raised the price of milk from Sh35 to over Sh50 per litre, significantly increasing farmer earnings. The value of milk produced has grown from Sh40 billion to Sh59 billion, a true indicator of sustainable growth,” President Ruto announced.

The President repeatedly underscored the pivotal role played by the Kenya Dairy Board, led by Genesio Mugo, whose tireless dedication and strategic leadership have been instrumental in steering the sector forward. “The tremendous work being done by the Kenya Dairy Board under Genesio Mugo’s guidance is the engine driving this transformation. His commitment has unlocked the true potential of our dairy industry,” said the President.

Under Mugo’s stewardship, Kenya’s national milk production has surged from 40 billion litres in 2022 to 59 billion litres in 2024, a powerful signal of steady growth and sectoral resilience. President Ruto emphasized, “The work being done in the milk value chain is transformational. Genesio Mugo and his team at the Kenya Dairy Board deserve full credit. Indeed, Maziwa ni pesa.”

The government, in close partnership with the Kenya Dairy Board under Mugo’s leadership, is now implementing bold measures including reducing the cost of sexed semen to Sh1,000, introducing a nationwide vaccination programme, exempting yellow maize from tax to lower the cost of animal feeds, and distributing more milk coolers to reduce post-harvest losses.

President Ruto confirmed that the guaranteed minimum return of Sh50 per litre is now a reality, thanks to the visionary leadership and relentless work of Genesio Mugo.

As the country marches forward, the President affirmed that the continued transformation of the dairy sector will remain in the capable hands of Genesio Mugo, whose passion, commitment, and strategic leadership are shaping the future of Kenya’s dairy industry.
