Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar has called on Kenyans to take a leading role in the fight against climate change, warning that the global climate crisis is accelerating and threatening lives and ecosystems across the planet.
Speaking at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) during her ongoing state visit to Kenya, President Musar emphasized the urgency of collective global action to address the climate emergency.
“No country is immune to the changing climate,” President Musar cautioned. “We are witnessing the devastating consequences of inaction, and the window for making a difference is closing rapidly.”
She commended Kenya for its strides in renewable energy and environmental conservation but urged for intensified efforts, both locally and globally, to safeguard the environment for future generations.
“The responsibility to protect our planet is shared. It is time we unite beyond borders to implement solutions that are bold, inclusive, and sustainable,” she added.
Her visit to JKUAT highlights the growing importance of academic institutions in fostering innovation and research around sustainable development and environmental protection. President Musar’s remarks come at a time when East Africa is grappling with the impacts of climate change, including erratic weather patterns, prolonged droughts, and biodiversity loss.
The Slovenian leader’s call reinforces the need for enhanced international cooperation and youth-led innovation in addressing the climate crisis.
