Spiro unveils major strategic moves and Davido collaboration at Africa CEO forum 2025

Spiro, Africa’s leading electric mobility company, has announced a series of strategic initiatives aimed at accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption, strengthening local manufacturing, and boosting sustainability across the continent. The announcements were made on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum 2025, positioning Spiro as a key player in Africa’s green industrial revolution.

In a headline-grabbing move, Spiro unveiled a high-profile partnership with global music superstar and entrepreneur Davido, who joins the brand as a strategic partner and ambassador. The collaboration has led to the launch of two new electric vehicle models — the Davido Collectible and Alpha+ by Davido — both designed with a youth-focused, stylish appeal.

“When I was contacted by Spiro, it wasn’t just about how big the brand was; it was about the motive and the goal,” said Davido during the unveiling. “These bikes are cool, efficient, and African-made. It doesn’t get better than that.”

Spiro CEO Kaushik Burman emphasized the significance of African-made solutions tailored to local terrains. “These bikes are going to be made by Africans, in Africa, for African terrains. This is the start of what I call a renaissance of industrial transformation in Africa,” he said.

Afreximbank President Benedict Omarah added, “Just as Davido was born in Africa for the world, our first bike is for global Africa and the world.”

Gagan Gupta, CEO of ARISE, highlighted the economic impact of the venture: “The idea is to reduce import bills, cut subsidies, and help boda-boda riders by lowering operating costs by 30 percent. That’s why Davido and I partnered to create Spiro, made in Africa for the world.”

As part of its aggressive pan-African growth strategy, Spiro announced market entry into Tanzania and Cameroon, with plans to establish new EV assembly plants in Uganda, Nigeria, and Rwanda. Its facility in Kenya, already operational, is home to Africa’s first AI-powered Smart Factory.

The Kenyan plant employs Industry 4.0 technologies and includes the continent’s first fully women-operated traction motor assembly line. The initiative is a product of Spiro Academy, the company’s in-house training program focused on building local capacity.

In a further boost to digital infrastructure, Spiro has launched Spiro Maps, an IoT-driven platform developed in Kenya, Nigeria, and India, and integrated Agentic AI into its operations to enhance decision-making and service delivery.

Spiro signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SEPHIS Foundation under the Shero Programme to strengthen support for women

in the EV sector. The initiative, driven through Spiro Academy, aims to promote financial inclusion and foster business growth among women across Africa.

To date, Spiro’s EVs have powered over 500 million CO₂-free kilometers across Africa. Reinforcing its environmental mission, the company introduced a patented second-life battery energy storage system, repurposing used EV batteries for low-cost, decentralized energy solutions.
