Kenyans will enjoy lower fuel prices starting Tuesday, following a review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). In a statement released on Monday, EPRA announced that the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene have been reduced, offering much-needed relief to consumers.
According to the new pricing structure, the cost of Super Petrol will drop by Sh1.95 per litre, Diesel by Sh2.20, and Kerosene by Sh2.40. The reduction is attributed to a decrease in the landed cost of petroleum products and the activation of the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund by EPRA to cushion consumers from higher pump prices.
Data from the regulator shows that the landed cost of Super Petrol dropped by 4.89 percent, Diesel by 6.45 percent, and Kerosene by 6.53 percent. In addition, the fuel stabilization fund contributed to a further reduction of Sh4.66 per litre for Super Petrol, Sh6.09 for Diesel, and Sh6.18 for Kerosene.
“The application of the Fuel Stabilization Fund has helped ease the impact of global fuel price fluctuations on local pump prices,” read the statement in part.
Fuel prices will now vary across the country, with Mombasa recording the lowest prices—Super Petrol at Sh171.39, Diesel at Sh161.62, and Kerosene at Sh145.75 per litre. Meanwhile, Mandera will see the highest prices, with Super Petrol retailing at Sh188.64, Diesel at Sh178.87, and Kerosene at Sh162.99 per litre.
The latest review is a welcome reprieve for households and businesses already grappling with the high cost of living.
