1 Mins read

Kenya’s bartending scene is set for a thrilling shake-up as the 10th edition of the World Class Kenya Bartending Competition officially kicks off, promising a showcase of innovation, flair, and world-class talent.

Sponsored by global beverage giant Diageo and hosted by East African Breweries Limited (EABL), the prestigious competition returns with record-breaking participation and renewed excitement.

This year’s edition saw 301 bartenders register, with 163 submitting applications, a significant rise from last year’s 268 registrations and 80 submissions. From this impressive pool, 40 of Kenya’s most promising mixologists have been shortlisted and are now gearing up for the ultimate challenge: crafting exceptional cocktails that tell stories, demonstrate sustainability, and elevate the artistry of bartending.

The journey began with a vibrant Community Day held on March 24 at the EABL offices. The event offered participants a deep dive into brand education and challenge briefings, setting the tone for a creative and competitive season. A standout moment was an immersive session on Don Julio tequila, where bartenders explored the spirit’s rich heritage—from the agave fields of Jalisco, Mexico, to the complex flavors in every bottle.

Contestants are now tasked with creating narrative-driven cocktails that showcase not only creativity and technical skill but also a deep understanding of the featured brands and sustainable practices in line with global trends.

“The 10th edition of World Class Kenya is back, and we’ve never seen this kind of excitement before,” said Suwilanji Ngambi, EABL’s National Advocacy Manager. “I’m beyond excited to witness our bartenders rise to this moment with Diageo brands as their canvas. This year’s submissions came from as far as Kisumu, Nyeri, Embu, and Mombasa.”

Ngambi emphasized the value of immersive brand education and the platform’s role in equipping bartenders to craft bold, story-rich cocktails ahead of the highly anticipated grand finale set for the end of April. The winner will go on to represent Kenya at the World Class Global Final in Toronto, Canada, competing against over 60 countries.

With a decade of celebrating cocktail excellence, World Class Kenya 2025 is poised to leave a lasting impact on the country’s bartending landscape—elevating local talent to international heights and inspiring a new wave of mixologists.

As the countdown to the finale begins, all eyes are on Kenya’s top 40 bartenders, whose creativity, passion, and storytelling will define the future of mixology.
