The Nairobi Hospital’s Board of Management has reassured Kenyans of its unwavering commitment to quality service delivery despite ongoing leadership transitions and investigations into alleged management irregularities.
Addressing a press conference held at the hospital’s amphitheatre, newly appointed Board Chair Dr. Barcley Onyambu reaffirmed the institution’s central role in Kenya’s healthcare system and dismissed concerns over recent internal and external upheavals.
“Leadership confidence is vital to any institution, particularly one central to the health of the community,” Dr. Onyambu said. “The recent reports on integrity and leadership are isolated and do not detract from our focus. The Board continues to work cohesively, guided by a strong leadership team and shared values.”
His remarks come against the backdrop of renewed scrutiny over internal governance issues, including an ongoing probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The investigation, which began with a raid on the hospital, has sparked public concern over patient confidentiality and data handling.
However, the High Court has since stepped in, granting anticipatory bail to affected board members and issuing orders to stay the probe. The hospital maintains that it is cooperating fully with authorities while prioritizing patient privacy and institutional integrity.
Acting CEO Felix Osano joined Dr. Onyambu in asserting the hospital’s resilience during the turbulent period. “Our commitment to excellence remains steadfast. We are taking decisive steps to address challenges and ensure that The Nairobi Hospital remains a beacon of trust and quality healthcare in Kenya,” he stated.
Recent changes to the hospital’s board are part of a broader effort to enhance governance and operational oversight. According to Dr. Onyambu, the newly inducted board members bring fresh perspectives and a wealth of experience that will accelerate the hospital’s path to excellence.
Internal wrangles — including disputes over doctor suspensions and governance structures — have added to the challenges facing the institution. These issues have triggered calls for greater transparency and reform from both within and outside the hospital.
Despite the headwinds, the Board is projecting optimism. Key measures have been implemented to ensure continuity of services, even as leadership works to rebuild public confidence.
“We recognise that we will be judged by how well we lead the hospital beyond this period,” said Dr. Onyambu. “Our dedicated staff continues to deliver uninterrupted and quality service to the public.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude to partners, staff, and the Kenyan public for their enduring support.
“Kenyans’ faith in this institution has not gone unnoticed. As we navigate this chapter, we pledge to fully repay your trust in us and continue serving you in the best way possible.”
