President Ruto leads nation in mourning renowned Lawyer Pheroze Nowrojee

President William Ruto has led Kenyans in mourning the death of renowned human rights lawyer and Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee, describing him as a “brilliant legal mind” and a “veteran defender of human rights.”

In a heartfelt statement on X platform, President Ruto said he had learnt of Nowrojee’s death with great sadness, praising the late advocate for his unwavering commitment to democracy, constitutionalism, and the rule of law.

“Mr. Nowrojee was universally respected for his principled commitment to the advancement of democracy, protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, and the promotion of Constitutionalism and the rule of law. Equally universally, he was admired for his unfailing graciousness, erudition, and solidarity with the ordinary citizen,” the President said.

President Ruto noted that Nowrojee’s legacy would live on through the many lives he impacted and the legal milestones he helped shape over his distinguished career.

“With his death, the nation has lost a brilliant legal mind who has made undeniable positive contributions to the development of our vibrant democracy and human rights culture,” he added.

On behalf of the people and the Government of Kenya, the President extended condolences to the family of the late Senior Counsel and expressed hope that they would find comfort in the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

Pheroze Nowrojee, who passed away at the age of 86, was also a teacher, mentor, poet, and writer.
