At least 13 people have lost their lives and 11 others sustained serious injuries in a grisly road accident that occurred Friday evening at Cheptangulgei area along the Kericho-Kaplong highway, near the Kericho-Bomet border.
The tragic incident involved a three-vehicle collision: a private car, a matatu, and a lorry. According to preliminary reports, the private car was speeding and blasting loud music moments before it veered into the path of the matatu, leading to a devastating crash that also involved the lorry.
Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to assist the injured, who were later taken to nearby hospitals including Kapkatet, Litein Mission, and Kaplong for urgent medical attention. Authorities have confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been moved to local mortuaries.
Kericho County emergency teams, along with police officers, responded swiftly to the incident. Preliminary investigations point to reckless driving as a key factor, with authorities urging motorists to exercise caution on the busy highway, especially during the Easter weekend.
Kericho County Police Commander said investigations into the crash are underway, and further details will be released in due course.
