KES 2.5 Billion Warehousing Investment Creates 1,000 Jobs at Tatu City
Tatu City, Kenya’s premier Special Economic Zone (SEZ), has launched The Link Warehousing & Logistics Park, marking a major milestone in the country’s industrial and investment landscape. The KES 2.5 billion development has already created over 1,000 jobs and is set to double its capacity with the commencement of Phase Two, which will be completed by the end of 2025.
The first phase of The Link, which offers high-quality, flexible warehousing solutions, is fully tenanted, attracting a diverse mix of local and international businesses. Among the companies operating within the facility are Bakels East Africa, a Swiss-based global leader in baking ingredients, and Novis PLC, a family-owned pasta production company. Other tenants include beverage distributors and an electronics assembly and supply company, highlighting the site’s role as a dynamic industrial hub.
The success of The Link underscores the economic potential of mixed-use Special Economic Zones in attracting global and local investors. Speaking at the launch, Preston Mendenhall, Group COO of Rendeavour, the developer of Tatu City, emphasized the project’s role in enhancing operational efficiency and business growth.
“The Link demonstrates the power of Special Economic Zones to create a thriving business ecosystem while providing world-class infrastructure,” Mendenhall said.
Echoing this sentiment, Kenya Investment Authority CEO John Mwendwa highlighted The Link’s alignment with the government’s strategy to attract and retain investors.
“A business ecosystem such as The Link, and what Tatu City has achieved with over 100 companies, positions Kenya as a competitive investment destination,” Mwendwa said. “As the Kenya Investment Authority, our mission is to create a business-friendly environment, whether within a Special Economic Zone or an Export Processing Zone.”
Spanning 12 acres, The Link Warehousing & Logistics Park offers warehousing spaces ranging from 850 sqm to 10,000 sqm, tailored to meet diverse business needs. Phase Two will expand this capacity to 25,000 sqm, featuring:
- Integrated office and ablution facilities
- Wide internal roads for seamless transportation
- 24/7 power and water supply
- Comprehensive fire safety measures
- Energy-efficient lighting
The rapid uptake of The Link at Tatu City highlights strong investor confidence, with Phase Two already oversubscribed. Businesses benefit from SEZ incentives, including reduced corporate tax for the first 10 years VAT zero-rating, 15 percent for the next 10 years (compared to the standard 30 percent)and exemptions on import and stamp duties.
More than 25,000 people now live, work, and study in Tatu City, home to over 100 businesses, including Heineken, Naivas, Dormans, Kärcher, Cooper K-Brands, Hewatele, Freight Forwarders Solutions, Roast by Carnivore, CCI Global, and Davis & Shirtliff.
With The Link’s expansion, Tatu City continues to set the benchmark for industrial growth, job creation, and economic transformation, solidifying its position as a leading investment destination in Kenya.
