Kenya Airways bolsters fleet with new Boeing 737-800

Kenya Airways (KQ) has expanded its fleet with the addition of a Boeing 737-800, boosting its aircraft count to 35. The newly acquired aircraft, which has a capacity of 170 seats, is expected to enhance KQ’s operational efficiency, expand capacity, and cater to the growing demand for air travel across its network.

The aircraft, sourced from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), is part of Kenya Airways’ broader fleet expansion strategy, underscoring the airline’s commitment to strengthening its operations and improving service delivery. The move comes at a time when the global aviation industry is facing challenges in aircraft availability, highlighting KQ’s ability to navigate industry headwinds and secure critical resources.

Allan Kilavuka, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director & CEO, hailed the acquisition as a significant milestone in the airline’s turnaround strategy, Project Kifaru 2. “The addition of this B737-800 marks a pivotal moment in our fleet expansion journey. It will increase our seat capacity and is a demonstration of our ability to adapt and grow in a challenging operating environment,” said Kilavuka.

He further emphasized KQ’s commitment to building a modern, robust fleet that aligns with its long-term growth objectives. “The acquisition of the B737-800 aircraft from DAE is a great milestone in our long-term partnership and solidifies our relationship as we work together in the future. It is also a clear signal to the aviation industry that Kenya Airways is a reliable and forward-thinking partner,” he added.

The addition of the aircraft is expected to immediately increase KQ’s available seat inventory, providing travelers with more options and flexibility. The airline’s proactive approach to fleet expansion and securing timely resources highlights its resilience and commitment to growth.

KQ remains confident in attracting partnerships with global aviation lessors, leveraging its strong market position and reputation as a leading African carrier. The move further reinforces Kenya Airways’ vision to strengthen its position in the global aviation market and provide exceptional service to its passengers.
