Jubilee rallies for super alliance to propel Matiang’i to 2027 victory

The Jubilee Party has officially thrown its weight behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Okengo Matiang’i as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. This declaration was made during a high-profile meeting at Jubilee Headquarters on Wednesday, where party leaders and aspirants from Kisii and Meru gathered to discuss the party’s future.

Speaking at the event, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni emphasized that Matiang’i has emerged as the most viable candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the next election. He noted that Jubilee intends to field candidates at all levels nationwide, ensuring a robust and competitive nomination process.

“In 2027, we will not repeat the mistakes of 2022. We will field candidates at every level and conduct free and fair nominations,” Kioni stated.

He underscored the party’s renewed commitment to structured leadership, promising that no aspirant would be handed a direct ticket without undergoing the nomination process.

Beyond Matiang’i’s candidacy, Kioni hinted at the formation of a broad opposition coalition, bringing together like-minded leaders to unseat Ruto’s administration. He mentioned ongoing engagements with prominent opposition figures, including former ministers Eugene Wamalwa, Peter Munya, and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, as well as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

“The only way forward is to create a super alliance. We must unite all leaders committed to real change in this country,” Kioni said.

He further criticized the Kenya Kwanza government’s economic policies, citing increasing tax burdens, a collapsing education funding system, and failing healthcare services. He argued that Matiang’i, having played a crucial role in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, understands the reforms needed to reverse the country’s economic downturn.

Jubilee Deputy Secretary General Joseph Menje echoed Kioni’s sentiments, stressing the party’s determination to regain political dominance. He highlighted Jubilee’s track record in government, lamenting that Kenya currently lacks a clear vision under Ruto’s leadership.

“We had Vision 2030, which Kibaki and Uhuru followed. Now, we don’t know where we are going. That’s why Jubilee must return to power,” Menje stated.

He announced plans to strengthen Jubilee’s presence in key regions, particularly Kisii and Meru, where aspirants have reaffirmed their commitment to the party.

Former Kisii and Nyamira aspirants, including George Orora and Peter Akanga, expressed their support for Matiang’i, citing his track record in public service.

“Matiang’i understands governance, and he has proven his ability to deliver. We will mobilize the grassroots to support his candidacy,” Orora stated.

Furthermore Kioni accused Ruto of manipulating key institutions, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), warning that the opposition must remain vigilant. He urged opposition leaders to unite and ensure a fair electoral process.

“Kenyans have already decided that Ruto must go. The only question is how we organize ourselves to make it happen,” he said.

Jubilee leaders vowed to work closely with other opposition parties to push for electoral reforms, warning that the current IEBC selection process is compromised.
