The Railways Training Institute (RTI) marked a momentous occasion as it hosted its 61st graduation ceremony, graced by the Principal Secretary for Transport, Mohamed Daghar, CBS. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of 1,415 graduates, a testament to RTI’s pivotal role in advancing Kenya’s railway and transportation sectors.
In his address, PS Daghar lauded the institute for its dedication to specialized railway training, emphasizing its critical role in sustaining and expanding Kenya’s infrastructure. “The graduation marks a significant milestone for the institution, which has been at the forefront of specialized railway training in Kenya,” he said.
The Railways Training Institute, renowned for its focus on both Narrow Gauge and Standard Gauge Railway systems, equips students with the skills needed to propel Kenya’s rail industry forward. The institute’s programs extend beyond railway engineering to include business and maritime studies, producing versatile graduates ready to contribute to various sectors.
A key highlight of the event was the emphasis on gender balance and inclusivity. PS Daghar praised RTI’s success in achieving near-equal representation of male and female students, attributing this progress to ongoing county government support. “We are pleased to see our institutions increasingly embracing gender balance, with county governments playing an essential role in supporting women pursuing careers in transportation,” he remarked.
RTI graduates are highly sought after, with many securing positions in government agencies, including Kenya Railways, as well as private organizations across Kenya and East Africa. The skills and expertise of these graduates are expected to bolster the region’s transportation infrastructure, driving economic growth and innovation.
The ceremony not only celebrated academic success but also reinforced RTI’s commitment to excellence in railway training, ensuring the next generation of engineers, business leaders, and maritime experts are ready to meet the region’s evolving transportation demands.
Established as a premier institution for railway training, RTI continues to play a crucial role in developing a skilled workforce for Kenya’s transport sector. By offering cutting-edge programs aligned with industry needs, RTI remains a cornerstone in the country’s journey toward modernized infrastructure and regional connectivity.
