Samsung Electronics has announced a groundbreaking achievement in television technology with seven models from its 2024 Neo QLED and QLED lineup becoming the first to receive both the True Cinema Black and HDR Brightness Accuracy certifications from the Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a renowned German electrical engineering certification institute.
Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President and Deputy Head of R&D Team for Samsung’s Visual Display Business, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering superior cinematic experiences at home. “Technology continues to advance, enabling us to deliver an unmatched cinematic experience right in our customers’ homes,” Kim stated. “We are committed to setting the highest standards for picture quality in both high-resolution and big-screen TVs, and we are proud that our Neo QLED TVs have earned these industry-first certifications from VDE.”
The certification highlights Samsung’s advancement in picture quality, with six of the 2024 Neo QLED models and one QLED model achieving the HDR Brightness Accuracy certification. This endorsement guarantees that these TVs reproduce HDR content’s brightness levels accurately, closely aligning with human visual perception and enhancing both bright and dark areas of the image for a lifelike viewing experience.
In addition, these models have earned the True Cinema Black certification for their exceptional local dimming performance. This certification ensures that the TVs can render wide aspect ratio films into a 4:3 format without light blooming, preserving the cinematic quality with deep blacks and vivid details akin to a theater experience. The True Cinema Black certification is awarded based on rigorous evaluations of black levels in the Letterbox area of the screen, adhering to standards set by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®).
