Five family members died in a collision on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway near Mbaruk. The deceased include a woman and her four sons. The accident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. when a Mercedes-Benz, driven by Christopher Ambani, was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry.
According to the Gigil area OCPD Jamlek Ngaruiya, Ambani was overtaking another vehicle when the crash occurred. The impact was severe, and the woman along with her children died on the spot. Ambani was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The lorry driver, Morris Wahome, reported that the Mercedes was traveling at high speed and overtaking recklessly. Wahome stated, “The car was driving at a high speed and overtaking, which forced me to swerve towards the roadside to avoid a collision. Despite my efforts, the car ended up in my direction as well.”
The lorry was en route to Nairobi, while the Mercedes was headed towards Nakuru. Authorities have transported the bodies to a morgue in Nakuru for further investigation. The tragic accident underscores the dangers of reckless driving and the need for increased road safety measures.
