Safaricom has announced the winners of the fourth week of its Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa campaign, with five Kenyans each receiving KES 1 million. The campaign, which started in May, aims to alleviate financial burdens and support community initiatives across the country.

The winners are Erickson Imbwaka from Bulbul, Jackline Nolari from Nanyuki, Jared Nganyi from Khwisero, Betty Chebet from Kuresoi North, and Timothy Mulei from Likoni Ferry, Mombasa. Each winner will also receive an additional KES 250,000 from the Safaricom Foundation to support a community project of their choice.

Jackline Sintaroi, a 22-year-old street vendor from Iripolei, was overjoyed upon hearing the news. She plans to use the funds for her children’s school fees, start a sustainable business, and build rental properties. “I see a complete transformation in my life and my kids’ lives. I thank Safaricom for helping to transform lives through such campaigns,” Sintaroi said.

Betty Chebet, a 50-year-old potato farmer and mother of five, expressed her gratitude for the timely support. “This is a big miracle,” Chebet said. She intends to use the money to educate her children and start a dairy farm. Chebet, who studied veterinary science, has faced many challenges since losing her husband in 2009.

Jared Nganyi, a 70-year-old shopkeeper from Khwisero, Vihiga County, plans to boost his business and purchase land for his sons. He also intends to support his community by equipping the laboratory at Luanda AC Primary School.

Timothy Mulei, a 25-year-old fruit and vegetable vendor from Likoni Ferry, Mombasa, described the win as a blessing coinciding with the birth of his second child. He plans to elevate his business and support his family, including paying school fees for his sister.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa praised the campaign’s impact, stating, “It gives me joy to see lives transformed and happy faces. We are committed to empowering our communities through initiatives like Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa.”

To participate in the campaign, customers need to transact on M-PESA or purchase Safaricom Bundles. Every KES 200 transacted or KES 20 spent on bundles earns an entry into the weekly draw.

The campaign has so far made 20 Kenyans millionaires and aims to award 11 more, with a grand prize of KES 5 million awaiting the final winner.
