Environmentalists Advocate for Unified Conservation Policies in Horn of Africa

1 Mins read

Environmentalists are advocating for the harmonization of cross-border environmental conservation policies and legal frameworks to bolster conservation efforts between Kenya and other countries in the Horn of Africa.

This call was made during the 9th annual Horn of Africa regional environment meeting currently being held in Nairobi.

The meeting has brought together environmentalists from across the Horn of Africa region to discuss regional collaboration on environmental issues, share best practices, and identify opportunities for partnership.

The participants lamented the absence of harmonized environmental conservation policies and legal frameworks, stating that conflicting environmental regulations among different countries impede conservation efforts.

A significant challenge highlighted by the environmentalists is the lack of sufficient financial capacity to implement their conservation ambitions. This financial shortfall is seen as a major obstacle to achieving their environmental goals.

Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho emphasized the need for cross-border collaboration, particularly between Kenya and Tanzania, in animal disease control. He stressed the importance of such cooperation to prevent the spread of immunizable diseases between the two countries.

The event, which runs from July 7th to 13th, aims to foster stronger regional cooperation in environmental conservation and to develop strategies for addressing shared environmental challenges in the Horn of Africa region.
