2 Mins read

Airtel Kenya has inaugurated a new customer care shop in Mandera town, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing network expansion strategy across the country. This latest addition, the 68th Airtel customer care shop in Kenya, underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing digital inclusion, particularly in underserved areas. With this opening, Airtel’s customer care footprint now spans 41 counties across Kenya, supported by over 2,200 outlets nationwide.

The launch follows Airtel’s recent announcement to extend its network coverage and services across the North Eastern region and other Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) areas. Currently, Airtel’s network reaches 89 percent of the Kenyan population. Between December 2023 and today, the company has established 480 new sites, raising its total number of sites across Kenya to over 3,700.

In Mandera County alone, Airtel has already set up nine sites and plans to add another 53 by the end of the year. Across the broader North Eastern region, including Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir Counties, Airtel aims to increase its current 62 sites by an additional 103 by year-end.

Speaking at the launch, Aashish Dutt, Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Kenya, emphasized the significance of this development for digital inclusion. “Today’s launch is a proud moment for Airtel Kenya and a significant step towards achieving greater digital inclusion across our country. Our strategic vision is to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of their location, has access to reliable, affordable, and convenient telecommunications services. This launch in Mandera exemplifies our commitment to reaching underserved regions, where improved connectivity and access to customer care services can profoundly impact socio-economic development,” Dutt stated.

Goldermier Opiyo, Customer Experience Director of Airtel Kenya, added, “We are thrilled to open our first customer care shop in Mandera County, a significant milestone that extends our reach into the North Eastern region. Bringing our services closer to the people has been a long-standing goal, and this launch represents a major step forward in realizing that vision.”

The new shop will offer a comprehensive range of customer services, including the sale of SIM cards, home broadband devices, and airtime purchases. Additionally, Airtel customers will have access to Airtel Money deposit and withdrawal services, while agents can obtain float from the shop. The shop will operate from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays and from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays.

Airtel Kenya’s investment in the North Eastern region is expected to significantly boost local socio-economic development by enhancing connectivity, which is crucial for education, business, healthcare, and overall community growth.
